What is it?
An opportunity to continue putting humanitarian values into practice while benefiting your home community through service.
Is it required?
To meet PC graduation requirements, every student is expected to complete extended home service.
Does it matter how much?
Every student is expected to volunteer approximately 80 hours of service.
Does it matter where?
Ideally, you will contribute to your home community.
If this is not possible, volunteering in the community where you spend your break is an acceptable alternative.
What are the goals?
The goals of volunteering during your break are:
- To benefit others
- To learn about yourself
- To challenge yourself
- To gain experience and confidence
- To build on the habit of volunteering
For example?
Volunteering with public (government) / not for profit organizations that share similar goals to those of the UWC; education, peace, social justice, sustainability, international understanding
Volunteering directly with those in need in your community
E.g. Right to Play, Red Crescent / Red Cross, Street Kids International, Seniors’ centres, environmental groups, conservation work, Habitat for Humanity, health clinics, Amnesty International, etc.
